It was a nice summer day in Binghamton when eight-year-old Sean Shumaker, his m om and brothers went to Otsiningo Park for a day of rollerblading. But something was wrong. The usual lively Sean was too tired to keep up with his brothers. From there, everything began to spiral out of control.

On January 10, 2012, the life of 21-year-old Sean Shumaker of Binghamton was cut short because of cancer. Sean was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of eight, not long after his day at Otsiningo Park and he then relapsed at the age of ten. For five amazing years, Sean was cancer free. But then the bottom dropped out when Sean was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 17. Sean endured 18 months of chemo and radiation and he relapsed. Clinical trials were attempted, but the cancer didn’t respond, so treatment had to be stopped.

Since his passing, Sean’s family has made it their mission to help other local young people fighting the fight of their lives through Sean’s Standing Strong Foundation. In April of 2012, Sean’s Standing Strong Foundation was formed to provide assistance to young people with cancer in the Greater Binghamton area.

In hopes of raising a substantial amount of money to help local young people fighting cancer, Sean’s Standing Strong Foundation will hold Sean’s Dream Car Raffle 2014 this Saturday March 29, 2014.

This year’s car is a 2011 bright yellow Chevy Camaro 2LT Coupe with approximately 19,000 miles. Tickets are $150 each and a minimum of 150 tickets must be sold.  If 151 or more tickets are sold the maximum number of tickets sold will be 300. The winner will be drawn this Saturday March 29th at 2pm. You don't need to be present to win.

Proceeds of the raffle will benefit in its entirety Sean's Standing Strong Memorial Fund and the Magic Paintbrush Project's workshops which serve medically fragile children and young adults.

If you’re interested in purchasing a ticket, you can get one at Botnick Chevrolet on Upper Front Street in Binghamton, or calling Beth at 607-222-9341.
