Family Finds Exceptionally Rare Ty Cobb Baseball Cards

My husband lives and breathes baseball. The other day I was trying to lug groceries into the house and instead of helping, Jay was standing in the driveway swinging at the air with the bat his keeps in the trunk of his car.

I can't even get upset with Jay's love of the baseball because there are other things he could obsess over that would be much worse. Baseball is a sport of statistics, precision patience and teamwork. All of those are good things for our son to learn and he will because Jay will raise him to know everything there is to know about the game.

When John was only two months old, we gave him his first set of baseball cards in his Easter basket and every holiday since, we've given him another package. Maybe John's card collection will just be something he looks at. But maybe his card collection will bring in big bucks for his family many years from now.

While cleaning out the dilapidated home that their great-grandfather lived in before his death, a family stumbled on a shocking gift left for them inside a paper bag.

The family, which has asked to remain anonymous, discovered seven identical Ty Cobb baseball cards from the early 1900s. The extremely rare cards are all still in good condition and have been authenticated by sports memorabilia experts.  The estimated value? More than $1 million.

Until these cards were found, there were only 15 Ty Cobb cards in known existence.  So yeah, this is a very big deal.

Joe Orlando is the president of Professional Sports Authenticator in California and he calls  the discovery "miraculous," adding, "I am not sure if any other baseball card find is more remarkable than this new discovery."
