Solution Tree has recognized Apalachin Elementary School as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work® school, an honor tied directly to the school's early success in raising student achievement.

The designation comes just a few months after Owego Elementary School, a sister school in the district, earned the same recognition back in June.

Apalachin Elementary School PLC at Work Model Explained

The PLC at Work model is built on the idea that better student outcomes start with ongoing, job-embedded learning for the adults teaching them. Three big ideas anchor the approach:

  1. Focus on learning
  2. Build a collaborative culture
  3. Create a results orientation

Superintendent Dr. Corey Green credited the recognition to the work happening across the district. "This recognition as a Promising Practices School from Solution Tree reflects the dedication, collaboration, and focus our educators have on student learning," Green said. "Following Owego Elementary School's recognition back in June, having Apalachin Elementary School honored as well speaks to the continuous district-wide effort to ensure high levels of learning for every child."

Green added that he's proud of the team at Apalachin Elementary, calling the honor well deserved and pointing to it as proof that working with clarity and purpose leads to real results for kids.

What Apalachin Elementary Had to Prove to Earn the Title

Promising Practices status is not handed out lightly. Schools need one to two years of PLC implementation under their belt along with clear, measurable evidence that student learning has improved during that time. From there, the school must lay out its practices, structures, and culture in an application reviewed by the PLC Review Committee before the designation becomes official.

Once approved, Apalachin Elementary will join other Promising Practices schools listed on AllThingsPLC.info, a site maintained by Solution Tree where schools share implementation strategies and performance data with educators elsewhere working toward the same goals. The site also hosts collaboration tools, articles, research, and blog posts for schools building out their own PLC process.
