A busy Endicott street was closed for hours after a car struck a pedestrian, causing critical injuries.

The incident happened around 1:55 p.m. Thursday on North McKinley Avenue, just north of Watson Boulevard.

Endicott police chief Patrick Garey said a car that was leaving the parking lot of the Apple Foods convenience store hit the pedestrian who was crossing North McKinley Avenue.

Reports from the scene indicated CPR was being performed on the injured 59-year-old Endicott man, who then was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City by a Union Volunteer Emergency Squad ambulance.

Several Endicott police officers were observed examining the white 2016 Acura sedan that hit the pedestrian.

Investigators said the car was driven by a 35-year-old Binghamton woman. She was not hurt.

The names of the driver and the injured man were not released.

Police appeared to be searching the passenger compartment and the trunk of the vehicle.

Endicott police were assisted by village firefighters, Broome County sheriff's deputies and state troopers.
