A local photographer on the Binghamton Walk of Fame is being honored at SUNY Broome.  Ed Aswad, a celebrated Binghamton photographer who now resides in North Carolina, donated the extensive Carriage House Collection to SUNY Broome. I've known this artist for many years and his talent has always amazed me.  Nice guy too.

The collection consists of well over 100,000 photographic negatives, 1,000 small photographic prints and 200 larger prints, as well as postcards, architectural drawings and photographic glass plates from the 19th century.

A commercial-industrial photographer since 1954, Ed Aswad has worked in color and black and white, both in his large studio and on location, as well as in a Bell helicopter to produce one-of-a-kind aerials. His images have been captured both in digital format and on 35mm and 4x5 film.

The Binghamton native captured images of Broome County at its finest for years, and believes that future generations should be able to see and learn from the past. His hope is that his creative work will continue to inspire individuals locally and beyond to see and enjoy their surroundings every day.

The December 12th event is the first of many exhibits planned to showcase both Aswad’s talent, and create a collaboration across the campus allowing students to showcase their talents in a variety of ways. A number of SUNY Broome alumni have supported this project, sharing their talents and skills with students and the campus-wide community.

Selected images will be for sale as wall hangings and note cards at the event, and light refreshments will be served. Parking in Lot #18 is recommended. The Gallery is located in the Cecil C. Tyrrell Library.
