Higher education may continue to be the primary use of the Davis College property off Riverside Drive in Johnson City.

Davis College administrators early this year took steps to merge with Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville.

Businessman Adam Weitsman is prepared to buy the Davis College campus for about $3.7 million. He said he expects the deal will close within 90 days.

Weitsman said he's received inquiries from "two larger universities" in the region about the possibility of establishing a satellite campus in Johnson City. He also has received inquiries from real estate interests.

Weitsman said he hopes to put together a project that will benefit the community. He said he does not expect the site will be used for multiple purposes.

Weitsman stressed that what happens in Johnson City is not going to be an extension of his metal recycling business. He said he has not had any conversations about the property with village mayor Greg Deemie.
