The English language is constantly evolving, and each year the Merriam-Webster dictionary adds new words.

This year, 533 words have been added, and the phrase "dad joke" is among them.

The Dictionary defines "dad joke" as "a wholesome joke of the type said to be told by fathers with a punchline that is often an obvious or predictable pun or play on words and usually judged to be endearingly corny or unfunny."

Other terms added to the dictionary this year include escape room, vacay, inspo, deep state, and stinger.
