Crappie Derby Will Have No Postponement Date This Year
Plans are underway for the Almost Annual Crappie Derby.
Minnesota Lake Boasts World's Biggest Ice Fishing Competition
The fishing tournament is set for February 16 on Whitney Point Lake. This year there is no postponement date planned.
The derby is often plagued by good, instead of bad winter weather, forcing postponement or cancellation due to thin ice.
Organizers will be maintaining the official New York State Crappie Derby website: http://www.crappiederby.com/ that includes information on the tournament, sponsors, registration and prizes.
The event draws upwards of 8,000 attendees when it is held with some competing in the ice fishing contests but others enjoying the festival atmosphere, games, food and even sometimes rides and skating events.
