Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say they found something other than s'mores, campfires and other normal remnants of a camping trip at the site of a tent pitched behind the County Highway Department.

At around 7 a.m. August 22, Deputies found a camping tent in a remote area behind the highway garage on Traction Drive.  Looking around the site, authorities found a spent one-pot methamphetamine lab and other components used in making meth.

The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team was called in to help in the removal and cleanup of potentially hazardous items.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cortland County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division at (607) 758-6151.
