Authorities say 50-year-old George Weir II of Cortlandville was charged with assault and aggravated family offense following the incident. He also faces counts of resisting arrest and menacing.

Investigators say Cortland County sheriff's officers were sent to a home on Penguin Drive around 12:30 a.m. Thursday to investigate a domestic dispute.

Weir was said to have threatened another person with a weapon during the argument. An officer reportedly was hurt when Weir resisted arrest.

The officer was treated at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. His name and the nature of the injuries were not released by the sheriff's office.

Weir was arraigned in Cortlandville town court. He was ordered held on $2,500 bail.
