The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse is finding itself in the disturbing position of having very bare shelves in the CHOW warehouse in spite of coming off a very successful Hunger Walk only days ago.

Speaking on the October 1 edition of the weekly, local public affairs show, Southern Tier Close Up, CHOW director Mike Leahy details the challenges facing the group in addressing food insecurity during the final months of the year.

Leahy says donations generally pick up toward the end of October and he hopes that will be the case gain this year.

Leahy also appeals to businesses to step forward to sponsor the bags postal carriers usually put in mail boxes during their annual food collection. Last year, the sponsor suddenly dropped out and food donations collected at mailboxes fell over 50%.  Businesses can put their names on the bags as part of the sponsorship.

For information on sponsoring the postal drive bags, setting up a food drive, locations of CHOW barrels and programs contact CHOW at (607) 724-9130.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Sunday at 6 a.m. on 98.1 The Hawk.
