Chenango County plans a remembrance for its residents who have been lost in the COVID-19 pandemic.

February through March, the county will place a lighted ribbon on the County Office building in memory of those lost.

According to a message posted on the County facebook page, officials said they hoped the ribbon will serve “as a moving visual symbol of loved ones lost to those that see it.”

Officials acknowledge the deadly virus is still affecting people everyone no matter their age.

The statement says :We need to stay vigilant even though we are past the point of fatigue. Continue to take precautions to protect yourselves and others.”

To-date, Chenango County has lost 37 residents to COVID-19, adding two deaths to the tally during the January 28 update.  Chenango County reports a total of 1,956 cases since the start of the pandemic in March.
