Hunger doesn't discriminate. Sometimes uncontrollable things happen in life. Linda Wintermute is a wife, mom and the Assistant Director at Bread Of Life Food Pantry in Candor. This is her story:

Since 1994, Check Out Hunger has been raising money and awareness for hunger-relief efforts across the Southern Tier and now through March 1st, when you visit your local Jubilee Foods, Save-A-Lot or Wegmans grocery store, you’ll notice Check Out Hunger coupons at the register when you pay for your purchase. You’ll be able to select a $2, $3 or $5 coupon for your cashier to scan.

This is how far your donation goes:

  • A $2 donation provides 6 meals to neighbors in need.
  • A $3 donation helps feed a child in need for one weekend with the backpack program.
  • A $5 donation allows the Food Bank to acquire $28 worth of food to help feed local families in need.

The food acquired through your donation will be distributed to over 160 Food Bank member agencies in six Southern Tier counties including Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins counties. 100% of the donations from Check Out Hunger go to fight local hunger.

Every week, over 11,000 people visit a hunger-relief member agency served by the Food Bank. In 2013, the Food Bank distributed over 9.7 million pounds of need to neighbors across the six Southern Tier counties.

So, the next time you’re at the grocery store, consider picking out a $2, $3 or $5 coupon to help feed those in our community.
