A candlelight vigil will be held tonight to honor the life of slain Johnson City Police Officer David Smith who lost his life yesterday in a shooting.

The Johnson City Police Department announced via their Facebook page that a candlelight vigil will be held in front of the Johnson City Police Department tonight, Tuesday, April 1st at 7:30 pm to honor and remember fallen Patrolman David Smith.

Another vigil is planned for Saturday April 5th at 7:30pm at the CFJ Park on C.F.J. Boulevard in Johnson City. Anyone wishing to attend this vigil is asked to bring their own candles. There will also be a time of memory sharing.

Johnson City Mayor Deemie says flags in the village will be at half staff until Officer Smith's funeral. Funeral plans are being coordinated by the Johnson City Police Department and are expected to be announced later today.

Officer Smith was an 18-year veteran of the Johnson City Police Department and a memorial page has been created by the Heroes Memorial Foundation to leave messages of sympathy and support for Officer Smith's family, both blood and blue.
