Broome County is continuing to lead the region in active cases of COVID-19 and the number of new cases being identified daily.

October 14, Broome announced 120 new cases, 764 active cases. The day before, the new cases numbered 124 with active cases at 710.  No additional deaths were reported yesterday, leaving the Broome County pandemic tally at 388.

The Broome County Health Department has been scheduling regular COVID-19 vaccination clinics in an effort to continue to bring up the numbers of residents who are vaccinated.  Clinics for both the Pfizer booster for residents age 65 and older and the Johnson and Johnson single-dose for those who had not been previously vaccinated were held at the County senior centers over the past several days.  All of those appointments filled up.

The next available appointments are for the Pfizer booster shot for older residents and those in eligible high-risk groups and will be held at the Broome County Health Department Tuesday (October 19) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Appointments can be made online at www.gobroomecounty.com.

Tioga and Cortland Counties October 14 each reported one new death from the pandemic. Tioga County has lost 71 residents while Cortland County now has had 78 deaths.  Tioga reported 32 new cases, Cortland 14 with 146 active cases.  Chenango County had 27 new cases and 140 active. 53 cases have been in people who have gotten the vaccine or 38%. Broome’s percentage of breakthrough cases is reported at 25.2%.
