Broome County Sheriff’s Office Raises Thousands for Local Families Fighting Cancer
Celebrating its second year, the Pink Patch Project at Broome County Sheriff’s Office has made a significant impact by raising thousands of dollars to support local families fighting cancer.
Presentation of Donation to Traci's Hope
On Friday, Officer Jennifer McPeek, the Pink Patch Project Organizer, along with Sheriff Akshar, Undersheriff Davis, Law Enforcement and Corrections Union representatives, and members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, presented a $2,700 donation to Traci’s Hope to aid local families battling cancer.
National Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness
The Pink Patch Project is a national campaign aimed at bringing law enforcement and the community together to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer.
Officer McPeek's Inspiration and Personal Connection
Officer McPeek, who has personal connections to breast cancer through her mother and sister-in-law, expressed her motivation for initiating the project, stating, “It’s an issue that affects so many families across our community, so I wanted to do something special to help local families who are fighting this terrible disease."
Fundraising Efforts and Community Support
Throughout October 2024, over 80 members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections and Road Patrol divisions proudly sported pink badges and patches to raise funds for local families battling cancer. Additionally, community members showed their support by visiting the online store and purchasing various items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and patches.
Beneficiary of the Proceeds
All proceeds from sales were directed to Traci’s Hope, a local organization that provides support to families fighting breast cancer by assisting with groceries, childcare, and other related expenses.
Appreciation and Gratitude
Expressing his pride in Officer McPeek's leadership, Sheriff Fred Akshar stated, “We are incredibly proud of Officer McPeek for coming to us with this idea, organizing the effort, and ensuring it becomes "a regular tradition as part of our community outreach and support.
