New Yorkers Are Focused on Breaking Bad Habits in 2026
As New York heads into 2026, new data shows people in the state are thinking about their New Year’s resolutions. More than anything else, New Yorkers are focused on breaking bad habits.
Breaking Bad Habits Is New York’s Top Goal
A new study looked at Google searches from last December. It found that searches about breaking bad habits are higher in New York than in any other state. These searches include cutting back on screen time, taking a break from social media, stopping junk food, and procrastinating less.
New York Searches Stand Out Nationwide
New York didn’t just lead in bad habit searches. The state also showed higher interest in New Year’s resolutions overall. New Yorkers searched for resolution related topics nearly 80 percent more than the national average. That makes New York the most engaged state in the country when it comes to New Year’s resolutions.

Other Popular Resolutions in New York
After breaking bad habits, New Yorkers are also searching for travel, health and fitness, career goals, and money. Hobbies and relationships are also on the list, but they come after the lifestyle goals.
Why So Many Searches Happen in December
The study looked at searches made between December 1 and December 30. This is when many people start thinking about change and setting goals for the new year. Researchers put the searches into seven areas, including health, money, career, habits, and travel, to see what mattered most in each state.
The Bottom Line for New Yorkers
New Yorkers are more focused on New Year’s resolutions than anyone else in the country. As 2026 begins, breaking bad habits is the top goal, showing a strong push toward healthier lives across the state.
