Blake Shelton's entertainment venue, Ole Red Nashville, is getting a new look due to city regulations. News Channel 5 reports that the Nashville location of Shelton's bar and restaurant that sits on historic lower Broadway will have to change its red exterior lighting.

The Metro Historic Zoning Commission initially filed a lawsuit against Ryman Hospitality, the company that owns Ole Red, in February 2019, stating that the red lights illuminating the exterior of the building needed to be changed since the building is in a historic overlay district, defined by Metro Nashville Government as "a planning tool to protect the architectural and historic character of Nashville's historic sites and neighborhoods."

City-wide regulations enacted in August 2017 state that colored lights can't be used on buildings in a historic overlay district, Broadway being one of them. Ole Red will now have to change its outside lighting to white.

A spokesperson from Ole Red says they "disagree" with the decision, explaining that the red lighting was decided upon before the 2017 regulation was announced.

"We strongly believe that our original lighting design, which was planned well before the current lighting guidelines were in place, strikes the right balance between honoring the historic character of our building while also being compatible with its present-day surroundings," Ryman Hospitality says in a statement. "We are exploring and intend to pursue additional avenues that will ultimately allow us to light our building in accordance with the original design."

Ole Red is located at 300 Broadway, also known as the Broadway National Bank building, which dates back to the early 1900s. Shelton opened the first Ole Red location in his hometown of Tishomingo, Okla., in 2017, followed by the Nashville spot in June of 2018 and another in Gatlinburg, Tenn., in March of 2019.
