Binghamton Wins More State Money for Parking Project

There will be some changes to a planned downtown Binghamton mixed-use complex that will include hundreds of additional parking spaces.

Mayor Richard David said the city is receiving a "substantial" additional state grant for the project that's been in the works for several years.

The mayor Tuesday declined to reveal how much more funding is coming from Albany. The state previously had approved more than $3.4 million for the facility at 7 Hawley Street.

$2.5 million in city funds already were earmarked for the project. The city has planned to borrow another $9 million for the complex.

David said he now hopes construction for the complex with the planned revisions can get underway by next spring.

The mayor said he expects the facility will include parking for more than 300 vehicles.

Details about the state grant and changes in the project are scheduled to be made public Wednesday.
