The STOP-DWI Winter Classic was a Southern Tier tradition for over 25 years as basketball teams from all over the country would come to the Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton for top-notch boys basketball and a positive message.

In 2015, the National Division was dropped and the classic was eventually moved from the Arena to Binghamton and Seton Catholic Central Schools. A few years ago, the tournament was stopped completely,

In 2014, the first-ever Mirabito Boys Invitational Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Tournament in Binghamton was held and it was a big success. They raised nearly $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Basketball and Community Support

Held at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena at the end of December, the tournament brought together high school basketball teams, coaches, families, and community members. Everyone came together to support the fight against cancer.

Teams from All Over

Basketball teams from across the region played in the event. The event featured some of the best basketball talent in the area and was part of the nationwide Coaches vs. Cancer program.

Special Check Presentation

A special check presentation will take place on August 13th, 2025, at 3 p.m. at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena to celebrate the community’s hard work and generosity.

About Coaches vs. Cancer

Coaches vs. Cancer is a program that has been around for more than 30 years. It’s a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The goal is to bring coaches, teams, and communities together to help end cancer for everyone.

Plans for Next Year

Organizers are already planning for the next tournament. They hope to bring in more partners to make it even bigger in the Southern Tier. I can't wait and I hope to see you at the arena in December.
