I've been a basketball referee for over 30 years and for most of those years, we would have an end of the season basketball tournament. It's the Southern Tier Basketball Officials Annual Stars & Stripes Classic.

This is our chance to give something back to our community and help to promote and showcase our local high school basketball talent. This is also an opportunity for the best Section IV boys and girls to show off their basketball talent in an informal and fun way.

It's also a way for us as officials to develop a rapport with the players and coaches during this friendly competition. Contrary to what some may think, we are not against you. We've invited 50 college basketball coaches to attend the tournament so that the athletes and coaches can connect for recruiting purposes.
