If you go to or watch a baseball game, you will hear what's called “Walk Up Music”. It's the music that is played while the player walks from the on deck circle to home plate. I know the Binghamton Rumble Ponies players get to choose their own walk up music, but I'm not sure how they decide what to play when a player from the visiting team makes the walk to the batter's box. I'm guessing the D.J. Decides what to play for them.

Barstool Sports wrote and article about, it so I'm guessing it's true.

During Thursday's baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays, organist Matt Kaminsky apparently played Michael Jackson's “Beat It” on the organ While Blue Jays batter Reese McGuire was walking up to the batter's box.

Why did Kaminsky choose to play that song? Well it turns out that The Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire was arrested earlier this year for allegedly masturbating in his SUV while watching pornography in a public parking lot. TMZ broke that story back in February. It may have affected his at bat too, because McGuire struck out.

Organists and DJs that work at sports venues troll the other team players and even officials from time to time. In fact, there is a rule in the AHL rule book that states the song “Three Blind Mice” cannot be played by an organist or a DJ at an American League Hockey game. The organization would be fined at least $1,000 for violating that rule. The rule itself is referred to as the Binghamton rule.

The AHL refers to it as the Binghamton rule because the late Bob Moppert used to play “Three Blind Mice” on the organ at the Broome County Arena when the officials took the ice. If the officials made a questionable or bad call, Moppert would immediately start playing that song again.

Even I did some trolling of athletes in the past. I was the music guy for the Binghamton Senators for their first three seasons here in Binghamton. Since then, I have been the backup to the main music guy, and when he is not available to do a game, they call me.

A couple of years ago, and I don't remember which team it was, one of the AHL teams played the Senators here in town. The team was spending the night at a hotel in Binghamton after the game. Once the game was over, a couple of the players went out for a night on the town.

The players supposedly ended up at Madame Oars where a couple of the players allegedly drove off in one of the dancers cars. The woman got her car back undamaged, but if I remember correctly, the cops were involved. I don't remember if charges were ever filed or not over the incident. The next time that team visited Binghamton, I played The Beatles “Drive My Car” on the PA when that team took the ice. The of the fans at the game got the joke and laughed.

It's all part of the entertainment.
