Firefighters and workers using heavy equipment continued the long slog of dealing with the aftermath of a blaze that destroyed a Tioga County recycling facility.

WATCH: A WNBF News report from the fire scene Sunday afternoon.

Nearly 48 hours after the fire at the Taylor Garbage Service plant in Apalachin was reported, cardboard and plastic materials continued to burn.

Fire crews Sunday afternoon poured water on tons of recyclables as the process of emptying the 30,000-square-foot building on Route 434 in the town of Owego.

Officials expected the slow, methodical job would continue into Monday.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which was discovered by neighbors shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.

People who live nearby have expressed concerns about the acrid smoke that's been rising from the site.

There appeared to be no air monitoring at or around the scene Sunday afternoon.

Fire investigators are expected to return to the wrecked plant Monday as they try to determine how the blaze started.

Demolition of the heavily-damaged building is expected to start in a few days.
