A Broome County Library Sells Doughnuts – But There’s a Catch
A bright electronic display sign outside a Broome County public library has been attracting Krispy Kreme doughnut fans.
The sign in front of Fenton Free Library on Chenango Street in Hillcrest features the doughnut company's familiar logo.
Library director Korin Spencer said quite a few people stop inside hoping to grab a quick snack. Unfortunately, she said, "it doesn't quite work that way."
Spencer explained the library is taking orders for doughnuts as part of a fundraising effort.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Spencer said this is the seventh year the Fenton library has sold Krispy Kreme doughnuts to help fund special projects. She said the library conducts the fundraiser twice a year.
Spencer said the doughnut fundraising initiative has been very successful. She said past drives have resulted in orders of about a thousand dozen doughnuts.
Orders for the current fundraiser will be accepted through February 16. Doughnuts will be available for pickup a few days later.
Money raised is to be used to purchase AEDs - automated external defibrillators - for the library.
People interested in participating may place an order at the library. Phone orders also are being accepted. The library's number is (607) 724-8649.
