There's nothing like the feel of an autumn in the Greater Binghamton area.  While spring was wet and summer was hot and dry, autumn has started out with warm days and cool nights, perfect to get a family day in outside at a close-by park.

Here are some of my favorite local parks that are perfect for a fall hike or a day visit:

1)  Chenango Valley State Park - This is perhaps one of the state's most beautiful state parks. Park admission has been lifted and the trails are painted with great scenery.  For a reasonable fee, you might even consider pitching a tent or renting a cabin to burn off those vacation days you may have.  153 State Park Road (off Rt. 369) in Chenango Forks.    (607) 648-5251

2)  Hawkins Pond - Great hiking trails around the pond plus picnic tables and barbq grilling.  224 Scouten Hill Road in Windsor.  (607) 693-1389

3)  Greenwood Park -  While Dorchester and Cole Parks offer relaxing hiking trails and picnic areas, Greenwood is one of my favorite getaways for the day.  153 Greenwood Road in Lisle.  (607) 862-9933

4)  Finch Hollow - This is my favorite place to get away from it all to observe the wonders of nature.  Trails and grounds are open daily at 1394 Oakdale Road in Johnson City. (607) 729- 4231

5)  Aqua-Tera - Featuring a great lake view with hiking trails and a nice little picnic area.  Maxian Road in Binghamton
