12-year-old Alexis Green of Windsor is a young lady leaving her mark on the lives of many by going above and beyond to make a difference in our community and her efforts definitely haven't gone unnoticed.

The Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program honors 200 deserving young people each year with a $1,000 scholarship toward higher education. This year, there were more than 37,000 nominees nationwide and our very own Alexis Green of Windsor was one of the 200 selected.

According to the Windsor Center School District website, almost half of the school children in the Windsor area qualify for free or reduced breakfast and/or lunch at school. Alexis was concerned that her peers would go hungry on the weekends, vacation breaks and over the summer and so she decided to face the problem head on and started Knight Pack. Knight Pack is a program that provides food packs to families in need. Since September of 2013, Alexis has purchased, sorted and packed more than 5,000 food items and has sent home packs of food every week with Windsor students in need.

Alexis was chosen for the $1,000 Kohl's Cares Scholarship based on her initiative, leadership, generosity and project benefits and outcome and is now qualified for one of Kohl’s 10 national scholarships, which will be announced at the end of this month. National winners will each receive a total of $10,000 in scholarships, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

Alexis is one amazing little lady who demonstrates that kids CAN make a difference, and through her efforts, hopefully other kids will be inspired to get involved in our community, as well.
