According to a new study, you don’t need to run endless miles to enjoy the health benefits. Researchers found that running just six miles a week will do the trick.

If you've been looking for motivation to lace up your sneakers and hit the pavement, researchers say that in addition to helping to maintain a healthy weight, running just six miles a week is associated with lower risks of cancer, heart disease and stroke, lower blood pressure and improved blood sugar.

Obviously, powerful health benefits are also enjoyed by people who run more than 20 miles per week, but running that much is also associated with increased heart dysfunction, risk of injury and death.

So, when you’re considering going for a run, it seems less might really be more. Sometimes it's easier to run (or work up the motivation to run) when you do it with someone else, so definitely be sure to check out the Triple Cities Running Club. Everyone is welcome to participate with TCRC members in free training runs which usually happen on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings.
