It's back again this year, it's a 'Walk to Defeat ALS' on Sunday, August 20th at the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open. Just like the Wendy's Walk used to do, it ends with a walk up the 18th green behind the final group.

Proceeds from the Walk will benefit the ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter. It's their biggest annual event, that raises funds and allows local chapters to sustain care services and support research for much of the next year. Their focus is primarily on helping local patients and families that live with ALS.

They kicked off the event with a banquet on May 9th to recognize and thank those who participated in last year's Walk, and to get everyone fired up for this year's event.

They decided instead of choosing one particular patient (pALS) to be the “face of the Walk” this year, they wanted to honor all patients, past and present, in a unique way. They are asking everyone to say why they choose to Walk and what it means to them to be able to honor their loved one year after year.

The Walk is a family-friendly event, where families and companies come together to celebrate their fundraising efforts and share the hope of defeating ALS.  This year’s goal is to raise $65,000 to sustain patient care and support cutting-edge research. If you're interested in this event, you can register here.

It's an awesome week (okay 5 days) of events from August 14th-20th and what a great way to end it. To see all the special events at the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open, go here.
