Friends of mine that know good food will always place Tranquil Bar & Bistro in their top 5 choices for great dining in the Binghamton area.  After my meal last week, I would definitely agree.  If you don't have Tranquil on your must list for Binghamton Restaurant Week, do yourself a favor and add it to your list.

Tranquil Bar & Bistro celebrates great food with a French flare at 35 Pine Street, between St. Mary's Church on Court Street and NYSEG Stadium in downtown Binghamton. There is plenty of parking across the street from the restaurant.

First, we were greeted at the door with a friendly smile and immediately felt at home.  Dan was our server and was very attentive, taking the time to always make sure our water glasses were full.  It's the little things like that that make a good restaurant great.

The restaurant decor is Manhattan sheik with a homey appeal.  The walls showcase local artists and the message is creative and fun.  Tranquil is proud of their community involvement and how they reach out to help local charities.

The menu selection for Binghamton Restaurant Week was one of the best I had seen. I was prepared to have the difficult task of choosing just one entree from the featured entries on the menu.  My first course was Duck Rillette; a crepe filled with duck confit, prepared with garlic cognac and served with crostin.  Visually appealing and very satisfying.

For the main entree, I suggest either the Pan-fried Trout or Pan-Roasted Boneless Breast of Chicken with Tarragon.  My friend raved over the trout as it was bursting with flavor and immediately wanted to know how they made it taste so good.  As far as I'm concerned, this was the best chicken dish I have ever had.  The feta cheese and tarragon gastrique really made this meal special.  So good, I may try to grow tarragon in the garden this year!

If you've never been to Tranquil Bar & Grill, this would be the perfect time to try it.  There is nothing pretentious about this place at all.  This is the kind of place you just want to hang with friends at.  One visit and be prepared to rave.  5 stars all the way.

Special thanks to the great chefs in the kitchen, for our terrific waiter Dan and thank you to my favorite server Naomi, who was off that night.  I definitely will be back after Lent for dessert too!

Binghamton Restaurant Week is on today through Thursday April 2nd.  3 course lunch specials start at $10 and dinners at $20.  For the full list of participating restaurants, visit BinghamtonRestaurantWeek.com

This event is directly connected to the new, urban energy in downtown Binghamton. And, best of all, it supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton and Broome County Habitat for Humanity.
