Growing up in Binghamton, I have some crazy babysitter horror stories. Let's face it, a good baby sitter is trained babysitter.  That's why the American Red Cross of the Southern Tier offers a Babysitting Training class for youth ages 11 to 15 from 9am-4pm on Saturday, April 18th at the Red Cross office at 620 Main Street, Endicott.

Babysitter's Training builds confidence to hold, feed and care for infants and toddlers, work with child safety and deal with emergencies.  It also teaches lifelong entrepreneurial and career development skills.

This is a fun and fast-paced class that includes hands-on activities, videos, role-playing, take-home training materials and discussions.

Teens will learn how to perform basic child-care skills such as diapering and feeding, handle bedtime and disciplinary issues, identify safety hazards and prevent injuries, communication with parents as well as fining and interviewing for potential jobs.

The cost of the class is $85. which includes a Babysitter's Training Certificate from the American Red Cross, handbook and CD ROM.  Space fills up fast so you may want to call if you're interested 1-800-733-2767 or visit redcross.org/take-a-class.
