After a year-long renovation, the historic Sherwood Hotel has officially re-opened and you have to see it to believe it.  Located in the heart of Greene, New York on Genesee Street, the hotel recently celebrated a huge milestone with a grand centennial celebration.

New owners, Don, Mary, DJ and Amanda Dunlap are life long residents of Greene and purchased the hotel over a year ago with the intention of preserving a piece of history and the improvements and updated amenities they have made to the hotel are truly amazing.

The newly renovated 19 room hotel has the same homey feel the Sherwood has always been known for, but with a comfortable new sophisticated ambiance that is perfect for business meetings, informal gatherings or a wedding celebration.

Most of the rooms have a simple, comfortable look and some have access to the famous Sherwood porch decks that have been completely restored to its original luster.  The romantic new honeymoon suite is perfect for a wedding night or anniversary celebration and features a king size bed, 2 person whirlpool tub and other amenities.

I enjoyed my Sherwood stay and can honestly say I got the best night's sleep in some time.  Very comfortable and I loved all the personal touches, especially the Keuig coffee maker.

The food is out of this world.  Chef Karl did an excellent job at designing a fine dining menu to fit everyone's taste buds.  Carl takes great pride in featuring in-season delights and will feature these additions as the menu changes. There is a nice selection of appetizers, fresh salads, seafood, chops, steaks and desserts.  I recommend the Classic Sherwood Chicken which features the original timeless recipe that some may remember enjoying on the famous picturesque front porch.  As a seafood lover, the Drunken Shrimp comes highly recommended.  The fresh Salmon tasted as if was prepared on a coal grill.  Grilled to perfection.

Don Dunlap looks forward to the addition of a lower level tavern opening soon.  Even before the doors officially opened, area businesses have already been booking the Sherwood for company meetings.  This hotel appears to have it all including the latest technology, perfect for any type gathering or reunion.

I very much enjoyed my experience at the Sherwood Hotel.  As a history nut, I would like to see a little more history of the hotel represented with more framed photos, stories and local art.  The Sherwood has never looked better.  The Dunlap family should be proud of their hard work in restoring the Sherwood to its original grand appearance and feel.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from 11am-10pm Monday through Saturday.  You can follow the Sherwood Hotel on their active Facebook page or on their web site.
