Scoop Up Bargains at the Indoor Yard Sale to Benefit Smithville Day

Smithville Flats is an absolutely adorable little town located just west of the city of Norwich, but there’s nothing little about the fun (and bargains) they have planned for you and your family!

Each year, on the second Saturday in June, Smithville Flats comes to life with a huge celebration called Smithville Day. The event this year will be held on June 13th with vendors, all kinds of mouthwatering food, a parade, children’s activities, fun music, a tractor pull, assorted demonstrations, raffles, and debuting this year will be…Cow Patty Bingo! There will also be a 5K Run & Walk, which makes a donation from the registration fees to the Genegantslet Fire Department, their local volunteer department.

But as with everything, a budget is involved with Smithville Day and a few years ago, there were only a few committee members and a small budget to work with. The committee needed to come up with a fundraiser so they could make Smithville Day an incredible event. It was March and freezing, so they came up with the idea of an Indoor Yard Sale at the Community Center. The committee asked community members for donations and they were completely overwhelmed with the amounts they received. And so was born the Annual Indoor Yard Sale for Smithville Day.

The committee receives so many donations that most things are ‘make an offer’ and so far they haven’t turned down a single offer! The Indoor Yard sale is a wonderful place to find a little bit of everything. There are clothes, household items, toys, electronics and pretty much anything you would find at a personal yard sale. And the best part? Since all the items are donated, all of the funds go straight to helping make the Smithville Day celebration bigger and better!

If you’re up for some spectacular bargain hunting (you know you are!), you won’t want to miss the Indoor Yard Sale on Friday May 29th and Saturday May 30th from 9am to 3pm both days.

The Indoor Yard Sale will be held inside the community center which is right in Smithville Flats on State Route 41.
