One of the best kept secrets of the year was kept by Super Bowl organizers who didn't let on to anyone that they had a very touching and special surprise for us at this year's game. The children of the Sandy Hook Elementary choir performed "America the Beautiful" with Jennifer Hudson before last night's game.

This year's pre-game performance with the Sandy Hook choir was just one one of many efforts on behalf of the NFL to honor the memories of the 26 Newtown shooting victims. In the aftermath of the shootings, many NFL players emblazoned their helmets, cleats, and gloves with messages of support of the Newtown community, and several games held moments of silence in tribute.

Ironically, the Super Bowl is where Jennifer Hudson first performed following her own personal tragedy a few years ago. In 2009, just a few months after the October 2008 murders of her mother, brother, and nephew, Jennifer got things started at Super Bowl XLIII with a hauntingly beautiful rendition of the national anthem.
