Quick History of Mother’s Day [VIDEO]
My mom may be in heaven with my grandmas but it's still a reason to celebrate this special day with the moms I know. Traci Taylor from the Hawk Morning Show is a new mom and what a wonderful mom she is. My neighbor Joyce is a mom, grandma and great grandma to her children, another great mom here in Binghamton.
According to History.com, Mother's Day originated in the 1900's as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mom's death in 1905, Anna Jarvis started Mother's Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made to their children. Interesting, Jarvis remained unmarried and childless her whole life.
Now that you know where Mother's Day comes from, please have a wonderful Mother's Day. Take a look at this picture from the 80's of my sister and me with my beloved Grandma Cora. Nice hair John!
