I'm so disappointed with the winter weather we've had this year. I'm a huge lover of snow and I feel let down by the lack of it. This is still upstate New York, right? And it is still winter, right?  Definitely hasn't felt like it.

Predicting the weather is a tough job (one I definitely wouldn't want to have!) and sometimes meteorologists aren't 100% on mark, but that's the nature of the business and it's pretty unusual for a meteorologist to apologize for getting it wrong.

But this last blizzard, which promised to bring a historic amount of snow to New York City, dropped way less than the two-feet that most experts predicted. The blizzard dumped snow in other areas, but the city only received about a quarter of the amount of snow that was expected. Emergency plans were put into effect. Roads were closed and travel bans were imposed and now a meteorologist at the National Weather Service is saying "sorry" for getting it wrong.

Gary Szatkowski, the head meteorologist at the National Weather Service in New Jersey did something we don't often see. He apologized for missing the mark:
