What did you do this weekend?  I opened my eyes and read labels!  Let me explain.  I hung up on my friend's American Flag on their front porch and found a side label "Made In China." I purchased 2 Colgate tooth brushes at Walgreen's and also found they were "made in China."  Is everything "Made In China?!!"  I refuse to use them and will be taking them back.  I'm hoping I'll have other options.

In the past, I have read where you should never digest anything made from China.  Could it be the exploding watermelons from chemicals used in their fields...you guessed it, "made in China," or the toxic pet foods from a few years back that contained meats and items from China?  I recently read in "Consumer Reports," that you should never buy anything that you eat from a dollar store.  It's just not worth the health risk.  Last Spring, I purchased Price Chopper brand "organic" pumpkin seeds from the store and found that they were grown in China.  I was wondering why 2 months later, they were still good.  That's when I found the label.  I picked up the phone and called their consumer relations department.  The representative was very nice and agreed with my anger over their product.  She took my name down and address down.  A week later I actually received a letter stating that "the quality of the US pumpkin seeds were not as good those from China."  What?  Are you kidding me?!  Think about that when you are carving that pumpkin in a couple of weeks!

I do commercials for Our Country Hearts Furniture Store in Maine, NY.  They are proud of the fact that that all their furniture is "made in the USA."  I like that.  I make an effort to support companies that support our country.  We need more of that.  Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against China as long as they are producing safe products and foods.  But I prefer to support American workers.  And if you are as concerned as I am about foods being shipped in from thousands of miles away, please check your labels.  It's a shame we have to but we do.
