A flower shop that has been brightening the days of local residents and consoling mourners at Binghamton funerals for decades is closing its doors.

MacLennan’s Flowers has been in business on the East Side for more than 85 years.

Owner Scot MacLennan says the Court Street store will close on Christmas Eve.

MacLennan says the decline in the area’s economy, taxes in New York and the changing face of floral retail, including online shopping and the sale of flowers in supermarkets, played into the decision to make the third generation of MacLennans the last to run the florist shop.
