    You're filling the washer incorrectly.

Quit filling the top load washer with water then adding your clothes. Your clothes float and it's annoying. new soaps are phosphate free, won't damage clothing or leave a residue. Drop your clothes in and fill it up. Unless you are using bleach, then all bets are off.

    Stop tossing in extra soap

More soap doesn't mean more clean. Use half the soap as usual. too much soap will cake in places that are not easily rinsed. Creases, collars, all that will harbor soap and bacteria. Pro tip: If you have hard water, you might have to use more anyway. Check the bottle.

Stop rubbing stains with all your might

You are just going to damage the cloth and make a weird spot. Dab don't rub, if you have to rub, do it gentle and steady. Treat stains quickly and you'll have a better shot at having them gone.

    Zip up your zippers!

Zip them up! the zippers are doing damage to your clothing in the wash cycle. Snagging and in some cases could rip and tear accompanying clothing!

  • 5

    Unbutton your shirts!

Leaving the shirts buttoned pulls on the buttons and holes on the shirt. Wearing them thin and shortening the life of your favorite shirt.

You was the "Dry Clean Only"

Not a big deal as long as the color doesn't do a magic trick and disappear on you. Check it before your wreck it. Dunk the item of clothing in some soapy water and press it in a towl. Color bleed? Yeah... no. Don't do it. Still don't even think about trying to machine wash leather, suede or silk.

    Quit it with the bleach!

Your blood sweat and tears will come out by boiling your shirt in lemon juice for a couple of minutes. Then take it out pop it in the washer with a half cup of baking soda.

  • 8

    Level the dang thing

The constant bouncing and slamming breaks the washer parts like the tub bearings and scratches your floor.

  • 9

You are letting your dryer cool down

No. You are wasting energy to heat it all up again! Do all your loads one right after the other. A hot dryer makes a happier, heavier wallet!

    Clean your dryer!

I got yelled at for this one. Clean the lint screen after every use. Once a month wash it with soap. The dryer sheets leave a waxy build up on the screen, making it not work so well. Once a month remove the exhaust hose and clean that out too!
