It could have brought nearly 200 jobs to the Southern Tier, but the Johnson City bid to manufacture medical marijuana in our area has been rejected by the New York Department of Health.

According to PressConnects, the application was rejected but there are plans to include a dispensary in Broome County, to sell the marijuana grown at a company's planned facility in Fulton County.  According to officials., "the state plans to make medical marijuana available for severely ill people, particularly children, by January 2016.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, D-Endwell issued a statement saying, “Unfortunately, we did not receive a license to grow medical marijuana in Johnson City, but I’m optimistic that Salus Scientific will remain committed to helping the area become a manufacturing hub for hemp and its numerous byproducts.”
