The Southern Tier community is invited to come together in a show of gratitude and respect to welcome home area veterans who will be embarking on an unforgettable journey through the Twin Tiers Honor Flight.

This Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22, local heroes will be honored for their sacrifices, and the community is invited to be part of the heartwarming Homecoming Celebration at SUNY Broome in Binghamton.

The Twin Tiers Honor Flight, a renowned non-profit organization, has arranged a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington, D.C., for Twin Tiers area veterans to visit the war memorials representing their service and sacrifice. As they explore sites like the Vietnam Wall, the Korean Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Airforce Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery, our veterans will be given the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and pay tribute to their fallen comrades.

Sadly, many veterans returned from their service years ago to a society that failed to recognize and appreciate their bravery. Determined to rectify this injustice, the Twin Tiers Honor Flight is making a heartfelt plea to the Southern Tier community to join in honoring these extraordinary individuals.

The Veterans Homecoming Celebration will take place on Sunday, October 22, at SUNY Broome. The community is invited to gather at SUNY Broome, lining the streets in a show of support for our veterans. Children and adults are invited to wave American flags, wear patriotic colors, and display homemade signs expressing gratitude to create an atmosphere of unity and appreciation.

Those wishing to welcome home the veterans are asked to arrive at SUNY Broome by 5:50 p.m., allowing ample time to participate in the welcome home gathering. While the expected arrival time of the veterans is 6:00 p.m., please note that it is subject to minor changes, hence early arrival is recommended to avoid missing this unforgettable and heartwarming moment.

As our veterans step off the buses upon returning home, the hope is that they will be met with an overwhelming display of applause, cheers, and tears of joy. It was a moment that encapsulated the respect and admiration of their community.
