A very special listener friend of mine, Angie Whitaker, has a gift for helping her friends, family and sometimes total strangers in the Binghamton community. This time, she's helping her brother-in-law, Herb Harmer on the fight of his life.

Herb is from Port Dickinson and is fighting hard to beat stage four lung cancer. He and his wife Debbie just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary along with their four children, Tracy, Daniel and twins, Richard and Steven, four grandchildren and two very special black labs, Brandy and Salem.

You could possibly know Herb from the Town of Dickinson Highway Department, where he worked before moving to Pensacola, Florida.

His greatest passion was seeing the country as an over the road truck driver. Since his diagnosis with cancer, he has been putting together model cars and trucks, spending time gardening and rooting his NASCAR favorites, Tony Stewart on TV or in person in Talladega.

I have been collecting cans and bottles for Herb and dropping them off at The Can Man in Johnson City and Binghamton. That's one easy way you can help!  At The Can Man, they can earmark the donation in Herb Harmer's name.

There is going to be a big benefit next Saturday, December 13th from 12Noon-4pm at the American Legion Post 1305, located at 820 Lower Stella Ireland Road in Binghamton. Angie has been working hard on collecting items for the silent auction, basket raffle, a 50/50 along with a big bake sale and bottle drive. Everything raised will go to help Herb and his ongoing medical expenses.

If you would like to donate items, feel free to contact Angie at (607) 237-9533.
