At the age of 108-years-old, Alfred Date, who happens to be the oldest man in Australia, found himself with extra time on his hands.

So what does a man of Alfred's age do with some time on his hands? Well, after hearing about an oil spill off his country’s coast that damaged the habitats of little penguins, Alfred got to work knitting heavy wool sweaters for the oil-splashed animals.

The sweaters are really cute, but they also serve a very practical purpose.  The sweaters help the tiny birds stay warm and keep them from ingesting the toxic oil while cleaning themselves.

And if you think Alfred's age is slowing him down, think again.  When he isn’t making sweaters for penguins, he makes blankets and hats for newborn babies and loved ones.
