Has spring finally sprung in the Greater Binghamton area?  The forecast is calling for a cloudy but warmer week with temperatures in the 60's so it got me to thinking, there are a number of things we all need to think about doing in anticipation of the deserved warmer weather.

  1. Paint Planning -- Most home improvement and hardware stores will have their first major paint sales around Memorial Day, with many of them offering deep discounts and rebates on paints and stains.  Start collecting those paint and stain samples now so you'll be ready to shop when these sale prices are announced.  We advertise many of them on the Hawk so keep listening for the best savings.
  2. Ceiling Fans -  Are you one of those people that set your ceiling fan for winter and summer modes?  Now is a good time to switch from winter to summer.  Remember in summer, it's counterclockwise for cooler temperatures that could save you 40% of air conditioner costs and using a using fan will make your room feel up to 8 degrees cooler.
  3. Propane and Charcoal Planning - Get your gas grill ready by keeping an eye out for sale prices on charcoal briskets as stores usually run sales anytime from now through Memorial Day.  Propane cylinders and tanks can usually be filled at substantial savings around the holiday weekends.  Again, keep your ears open for these announcements on the Hawk.
