A toddler who had not received medical treatment after being shot was discovered in a vehicle stopped by troopers on Interstate 81 north of Binghamton.

Authorities say the two-year-old boy sustained the gunshot wound to his lower extremities in South Carolina.

Investigators say Horry County police had advised New York authorities that the family might be traveling through the Binghamton area.

State police intercepted the vehicle on the high near Exit 6 in the town of Chenango around 12:50 a.m. Friday.

The injured toddler was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Two other children who were in the vehicle were turned over to Broome County Child Protective Services workers.

Police say 24-year-old Holly Dew and 23-year-old Randi Session - both of Conway, South Carolina - were charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Dew and Session were arraigned in Chenango town court and sent to Broome County Jail on $2,000 bail.
