Weitsman Says He Won’t Be Involved in Binghamton Projects

Developer Adam Weitsman won't be developing a sports bar or any other project in the city of Binghamton for the foreseeable future.

Weitsman last fall floated plans on social media about the future of the Hawley Street site of Parlor City Pub. He was considering a project to turn the place into a sports bar.

Weitsman had discussed a renovation for the property for a business he suggested would be called "On the Deck."

But days later, Weitsman's friendship with Mayor Richard David was being scrutinized after it was reported Weitsman had invited the mayor to join him on an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas.

Weitsman on Monday said he's decided not to get involved at the Hawley Street property or any projects in the city as long as David is mayor. He said he is concerned about the possible "perception of a conflict of interest."

Weitsman said "people have the right to question" an appearance of a conflict, even if none exists.

The owner of Owego-based Upstate Shredding said he'll maintain his long-term friendship with David and refrain from getting involved in any development work in Binghamton for now. He said he doesn't "want to put any stress on that relationship."

With the tentative plans for a sports bar now scrapped, it's unclear what the future holds for the Parlor City Pub site at the corner of Hawley and Washington streets.

Broome County records indicate the three-story building was sold in January for $500,000. The property owners could not be reached to comment on the plans for the property.
