Fire caused heavy damage to one unit at a large Binghamton apartment complex.

The blaze at Carlisle Hills Apartments at 150 Moeller Street on the city's East Side was reported at 11:56 a.m. Wednesday.

Two adults were in the apartment in Building 5 when the fire broke out. A man escaped by going out a second-floor window and waiting on a small overhang to be assisted by firefighters who used a ladder to reach him.

No injuries were reported. Fire damage was confined to a living room and kitchen on the first floor. There was some smoke and water damage to the apartment's second floor.

There appeared to be no damage to the five other units in the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it was being considered as "possibly suspicious."
