Try This Gardening Hack To Grow Amazing Tomatoes
Now is the time at-home gardeners are plying their trade and if you are growing tomatoes here is a really cool hack that can help you grow big red tomatoes.
You will need a banana for this to work. Currently, I am in a tomato growing contest for the Erie County Fair where I am going against other local media personalities to see who can grow the best tomatoes.
I have what is known as a killer thumb, which basically means that anytime I try to grow something or plant something it dies.
So I was asking for ideas to keep my tomato plants nice and healthy and one listener named Jennifer told me about banana peels.
Apparently, if you soak a banana peel in water for a couple of days, all the nutrients from the peel get into the water and help the plants grow.
It sounded weird to me, so I looked it up and it is true. According to capegazette.com, it is what is in the peel that helps the plants.
Banana peels are good for gardens because they contain 42 percent potassium (abbreviated to its scientific name K), one of the three major components of fertilizer along with nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) and shown on fertilizer labels as NPK. In fact, banana peels have the highest organic sources of potassium.
Of course, I am a VERY competitive person I just had to try it. I took a peel a couple of days ago and put it in a glass full of water. I waited 48 hours and just poured in the water into my tomato plants "Tommy" and "Tammy" Fingers crossed that this will work!
Now if you want to vote for my tomatoes during the Erie County Fair's "Growing Aces Media Growing Competition" you can stop by the Ag-Grange Building for the length of time they are in prime condition to check out "Tommy" and "Tammy".
Don't forget this year you can only buy tickets to the Erie County Fair online and you must have tickets before you head to the gate. Get your tickets HERE
