Broome County Teens Take a Stand Against Tobacco
Teens across New York State have chosen Monday, October 13th to be “Seen Enough Tobacco Day.” This is a day where young people speak out against the billions of dollars spent on tobacco advertising each year. These ads quite often influence kids and teens to start smoking or vaping.
Broome County Students Take Action
In Broome County, Reality Check youth are leading the way. They are planning special events and display, not just today, but every day through October. They want to help and teach the community about the dangers of tobacco marketing. One of their displays sends a clear message: Young people have seen enough tobacco ads.
Why This Matters
Studies show that the more young people see tobacco ads, the more likely they are to try smoking or vaping. These ads are often colorful and designed to catch the attention of kids and teens.

Most Smokers Start Young
According to the U.S. Surgeon General, almost no one begins smoking after age 25. Nearly 90% of smokers started before age 18, and 99% start by age 26. This is why stopping youth exposure to tobacco advertising is so important.
