Coronavirus, murder hornets and now ticks that can cause a red meat allergy: can 2020 get any crazier?

Yes, everything that is getting thrown at us this year has certainly been unprecedented. And now we add to the craziness.

According to New York Upstate (NYUP), the Lone Star tick has made it's way to Upstate New York. Apparently a bite from tick, which is native to the Southwest United States, can cause what NYUP calls a "...bizarre allergy to red meat." Bizarre indeed! The lonestar tick can also spread disease, but a little bit of good news - you cannot catch Lyme disease from one and at an 1/8th of an inch long NYUP says these ticks are way easier to spot than a deer tick.

So how prevalent are these evil little beasts? NYUP says they are mostly on Long Island at this point, but they are making their way Upstate as one was found last year in Onondaga County.

Is it me or 2020 is pretty much only given us bad, scary things so far this year. First, COVID-19 has been devastating from a health and human life stand point, as well as an economic one. Then that is followed by a few nasty insects: the murder hornet with bites that can be fatal and now a tick that can cause an allergy to red meat. If I told you on back New Year's Eve these 3 things were coming you have called me crazy. Now we are simply having one of the craziest years I can remember. I don't think we could have dreamed up any of these things before they actually happened!

I will say this, with murder hornets and more ticks out there (Even though they may not be close by) - staying home sounds better everyday.
