The JCC Adult Program Department is offering Tai Chi for Arthritis/Falls Prevention and Tai Chi for Energy starting in.  These classes open to the entire community and are ideal for adults to help them improve cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and balance.  The exercises also help to alleviate arthritis pain, lower back pain, helps people relax, sleep better and feel better about them selves.

These safe & easy eight-week (16 sessions) courses were created by Dr. Paul Lam.  The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) recognizes using Tai Chi as a falls prevention program for people 65 and older. New York is one of three states and Broome County is one of three counties to receive this CDCP grant to pilot this falls prevention program. This program is administered through the Broome County Department of Health initiative.

The 16-session class costs only $50.00 or is free for anyone age 80 and older.  All classes are held at the JCC, 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal.

Tai Chi for Arthritis will be held on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 10:30 – 11:30am starting October 7 through December 16th.   Facilitator Peg Swarts is a certified instructor through Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Tai Chi for Energy will be held on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 10:30 – 11:30am from October 13 through December 10th.  Facilitator Gail Goldberg is a certified instructor through Tai Chi for Health Institute.
